Mobile Beach Hut!!

Just when you think you’ve seen every kind of house, someone comes along and presents something like this mobile beach cabin! Crosson, Clarke, Carnachan Architects created these “huts on sleds” in coastal erosion zones in New Zealand. The portability of the house is important because in these erosion zones the landscape can change drastically so being able to move the home to a more secure location is key. BUT, the house is not short on awesome! It accommodates a family of 5, has everything a house needs, can be closed up completely when not in use and looks good while doing all that! Sign me up!!

Alcove Beds!!

There is something very cozy looking about alcove beds. They are like your own little protected, comfy cave. Great for kids sleeping spaces too. And there are so many inspiring pictures for creating your own alcove bed space!

So lovely

480 Square Feet of Amazing!

This flat may be only 480 square feet but it’s not lacking! Lots of great interior design ideas are meshing well in this home. I love the huge wall of mirrors which makes the space feel larger. The use of a clear dining table and mostly clear chairs allows for ample seating but they don’t take over the space because they almost disappear in the room. And, there are great pops of color all over the place! Love it!!

Boy’s Apartment on GIRLS!!

If any of you watch the new HBO hit show, GIRLS, you may have seen the episode where we first meet Charlie’s apartment. Nevermind why we are taken to the apartment (2 characters and their relationship issues) but the place is so wonderful and full of great design ideas!! Yes, I know it’s a set created in the minds of TV people but so many things in the apartment are TOTALLY doable in the real world. See what I mean —

Initial design drawing of the space created by production designer, Laura Ballinger Gardner.

The color blocking on the plywood cabinets was inspired by Piet Mondrian.

Now this is brilliant. There is so much happening in this little area. Bed, stairs, storage, lounge area on top of the bed and small seating area!!

A shot of inside the bed cave.

Love for The Great Outdoors!

I love, love, love a great outdoor space! Especially during this time of year when the weather is not too hot, the sun is shining and we have a nice breeze…. Oh yeah! So, naturally, I went looking for some outdoor area design ideas! Here’s what I found...

I love all the color here! And, it’s pretty simple. 2 chairs and an ottoman. Lovely.

Even if you don’t have a lot of space, you can still make it fabulous!

Don’t have a covered outdoor area? Make one out of a storage shed! Brilliant.

Little Red House (not on the Prairie)

I love that this house is red and I thank Dwell for sharing it. The home belongs to David and Jodi Sarti. David actually designed the 1,100 sq. ft. house himself and made every inch useful. The bathroom doubles as the laundry room and the kitchen, dining room and “bar” are all the same room as well. With rolling furniture.

The home sits on one half of a lot.In red, it really stands out.

Love the concrete floors and high window.

The kitchen and dining area with the “bar” under the stairs. I have always loved the idea of making good use of the space under the stairs. And, notice the table on wheels. David put wheels on the table and uses fold up chairs so that they are easy to move to make more room when needed. Brilliant!

The bar/island/storage box made by David. On wheels too.

The office upstairs with a great big window for nice outside views and lots of natural light.

 And the bathroom/laundry room.

Complete with a nice patio space and rolling planters! : )

Galley House in Toronto

This house is brilliant! Working with very limited lot space in Toronto, architect Donald Chong created the beautiful, unique and spacious Galley House for Karen White, David MacNaughtan and their 2 boys. This home is a perfect example of how to make the space work for you and get the most out of it.

Street view of the house. Pretty front yard. The whole house is only 12 feet wide!

Living room. Lots of light and I love the Wegner chair.

Kids play area.

The Dining Room with more Wegner furniture.

Eating at the kitchen counter.

Another view of the kitchen. So bright and beautiful.

One of the boys bedrooms.

Rear view of the house.

And a fantastic backyard/patio area. Love it
