Thanks to all our customers for joining High Fashion Home and the Arbor Day Foundation to help save our planet.  For every piece of furniture sold at High Fashion Home, one tree will be planted through the Arbor Day Foundation.  As of March 31, 2012, we have helped plant 32,061 trees.

Here are some of the benefits one tree can make for years to come:

  • One tree can absorb more than a ton of carbon dioxide
  • Over the course of 50 years, a single tree can control $31,500 of soil erosion.
  • Trees help maintain clean water supplies.
  • One tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen a year.

The trees planted through the Arbor Day Foundation will help produce 8,335,860 pounds of oxygen in the next year.  Thanks to all of our wonderful customers for helping the world breath a little bit easier.

Digital-Only Textbook for Kids

Let me start of by professing my love for the Kindle.  E-readers are definitely the future, and it looks like the future is finally about to descend upon our public school systems.  McGraw-Hill just launched it’s first digital only textbook.

There are numerous advantages of the digital only format.  When publishers need to make minor updates, they won’t have to print thousands of these heavy text books to schools around the country.  It saves paper, saves gas, and most importantly, saves money.  Each paper book costs roughly $50-80 dollars to our school systems (Let’s not talk about the budget shortfalls that most public entities are facing).  Now they can send a quick update so that students will have instant access to the right information.

With the price of e-readers dropping quickly, our kids might be able to get their hands on one sooner than later.  Worst case, parents should buy their kids an e-reader instead of a phone or video game system.

I love my Kindle!

Retro Modern Wallpaper from X-Men: First Class

Six degrees of Kevin Bacon; photo from architecturaldigest.com.

X-Men: First Class is an excellent movie directed by Mathew Vaughn.  But the main reason to see the movie is the amazing wallpaper from the submarine scene.  It’s the very same wallpaper our design team used for our Pop Life Dining shoot.  Great minds think alike!

The 60″s inspired wallpaper looks spectacular in this setting.

The Little Couple at High Fashion Home

Jennifer from The Little Couple visited High Fashion Home back in January.  She and her husband, Bill, were looking to decorate their new home that is currently being built.  The episode just aired this past Tuesday.  We weren’t sure if our store was going to make it on an episode, so it was a cool surprise when HFH popped up on the show.

Here are some of the benefits one tree can make for years to come:
  • One tree can absorb more than a ton of carbon dioxide
  • Over the course of 50 years, a single tree can control $31,500 of soil erosion.

  • One tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen a year.
My math says our trees will help produce 4,092,400 pounds of oxygen in the next year.  Thanks to all of our great customers for helping the world breath a little bit easier.

Tug Of War: Which Dining Table Would You Choose?

This week we have agreed to start a battle between two of our most favored dining tables. The Magnolia round and the Santos square dining tables. Both have a beautiful look to them and also add a great presence to a room. The Magnolia dining table has an appealing white wash finish with an elegant base. It’s style is versatile which makes it an easy pick for any setting. The Santos dining table has a little bit more character. It tells stories with its reclaimed peroba wood details and smooth ebony finish. These tables are both superb, but which one is better than the other?

Help us settle this debate by going onto our facebook page (Click here) and pick which table you prefer with a comment next to it. In doing this you will be automatically entered to win a $200 gift certificate for our store.

The Magnolia Dining Table
The Magnolia Dining Table is a wonderfully crafted table that can fit in any dining room. It is handcrafted of mango wood with a raw, white finish created through sandblasting.

The Santos Dining Table
Tablecloth? Blasphemy. Designed with precise angular strokes, the Santos Dining Table is a commanding presence in any space. Available in two shapes (square, round) and a variety of corresponding widths, the Santos Dining Table has unparalleled versatility.
