The Next Iron Chef: Bryan Caswell?

Down the street from High Fashion Home lies REEF, #1 Seafood Restaurant in the US by Bon Appetit magazine.  Chef/Owner Bryan Caswell was recently announced as a contestant on season 3 of The Next Iron Chef.  We had a great experience working on the interior design with Caswell on his highly acclaimed restaurant, Stella Sola.  This celebrity chef is by far Houston’s brightest culinary star.  The word on the street is Caswell performed exceptionally well in the competition.

Here is his recent interview with the Houston Chronicle.

Thomas Bina Furniture

 Hendrix Desk, $1299

Crate and Barrel just came out with their 2010 fall collection of new furniture pieces.  As usual, there are a bunch of things that caught my eye.  What I couldn’t help noticing were the Hendrix Desk and Phoenix Work Table.   These two exclusive pieces were designed by uber-talented Thomas Bina.  The reclaimed demolition hardwood and solid black walnut lends itself to a style that is both rustic and contemporary.  The Wright Desk and Tyson Dining Table at High Fashion Home were both designed by Bina.

The soft mauve velvet, antique settee with the beautiful faux finish walls feels just right.

You don’t really see barstools at the main kitchen counter top, but I really like it.  If your kitchen doesn’t have space for an island, this is the best possible compromise to create seating space in you kitchen.

The secret to decorating any home…musical instruments.  Even if you don’t play an instrument, fake it.  Placing a guitar strategically in certain areas automatically increases your interior design style quotient.

Very artistic, yet borderline graffiti.

What’s New at!

It’s a little long overdue, but here are some of my favorite new items that we uploaded to our website last month.  Expect a slew of new furniture products to be shown on our website in 6 weeks.  Our team is working diligently to introduce over 300 new items.  This past go around, it took us 6 months from time we did the photo shoot to actually getting the products online.  We’ll attempt to do it in 2 months next time.

Until then, enjoy some of my faves for now!

Lumeno Glass Rectangular Cocktail Table: Fabulous piece.  The additional two nesting tables creates a lot functionality and versatility.  It’s a great value at $429.

Juniper Round Cocktail Table: Customers have been loving this piece.  It’s $499 and includes the round glass table and four ottomans with mini rollers.  It’s great for small spaces that occasionally need more seating for gatherings.

Wright Desk: Innovative furniture designer, Thomas Bina, has combined a great contemporary design with reclaimed demolition hardwoods and solid white oak and black walnut.  $799.

Andre Sofa: Super deep seating sofa that is incredibly comfortable.  It is shown in a rich chocolate, corduroy velvet.  The 100% poly, microfiber is incredibly soft to the touch, yet has a great durability story for kids and pets.  It’s $1399 for a 94″ wide sofa.

Andre Slipcover Sectional: This cotton, polyester blend slipcover sectional features a pre-washed fabric, so you can wash the slipcover whenever needed without having to worry about shrinkage.  The down-blend wrap seat cushion is delightfully comfortable. $2799.

Dustin Sofa: This shelter back sofa has a touch of glam.  Beautiful nail trim across the bottom, sides, and back.  A nice, grid tuft panel on the inside arms.  $1799.

Ingram Sofa:  A part of the Martha Stewart Bernhardt furniture collection.  It’s a modern take on the classic Chesterfield silhouette.  Tight back.  Clean single bench cushion.  Small roll arms with a nice antique brass nailheads.  $1529.

Miles Sofa: Very sophisticated and clean.  Understated elegance all around.  Features an exposed wood base with nailhead trim.  Nice thin arms with a single bench seat cushion.  The sofa is slightly curved adding to the small, subtle touches.  $1799.

Darlington Leather Sofa:  Details.  Lots of details.  More of a classic Chesterfield silhouette.  Tufts, nailheads, and down-blend seat cushions, the Darlington Sofa has it all.  $2899.

Corvallis Dining Table:  Made out of solid Sheesham wood, the natural wood patina looks spectacular in person.  $1099.

Tyson Dining Table: Beautiful, sustainable construction that is handcrafted from exotic demolition hardwoods as well as white oak and black walnut.  The antique metal based adds to the substantial design aesthetic.  $1999.

Abacus Barstool:  This barstool has a nice, rubbed black finish.  The churn legs, burlap fabric, and tiny nailhead trim gives it a very Moroccan-ish feel. $329.

Mirrored Chester 3-Drawer Silver:  This piece will bring out the glam in glamorous. Any space that needs a little charm should add this mirrored chest to the room.  $659.

Casper End Table:  The Casper table is simply stunning. With graceful lines and a minimalist design, Casper makes an unequaled design statement in design décor. Casper is available in clear acrylic as well as cherry red and slate.  $599.

W Retreat & Spa – Vieques (via Contemporist)

In a marked departure from typical W Hotels, playful colors combine with the W Hotel’s signature, sophisticated chic style.

W Retreat & Spa – Vieques marks the W Hotels first retreat in North America.  Located on a remote island just off the coast of Puerto Rico,  W Retreat & Spa combines the company’s signature style and programming with 30-acres of stunningly, beautiful beachfront property.

Gorgeous lounge seating with a rainbow sheer awning.

Resembles the neutral grays that the customary W Hotels are famous for.

The illumination and soothing water element creates the dramatic “welcome” entrance.

A bed worth relaxing on.

An outdoor seating area that is truly “Lounge” worthy.

The pool side view glows at night.

Felt Makes Me Happy

I’m not sure why I fell asleep last night thinking about felt but I did. I guess it started when I got the bright idea to attempt making some felt toys/dolls for my daughter. I’m sure I can pull it off….. Right? So, today I checked out Etsy to see what other felt creations people come up with and I am even more inspired to give felt-y crafts a go. Here are some neat things I found. : )

I LOVE these carnival hydrangea felt clips (by Lou and Lee)!!! I haven’t ordered them yet but believe me, I will. They will look so adorable in my daughter’s hair.

Felt napkin rings by ItzFitz. So cute and they come on LOTS of different colors.

These yarn wreaths with felt flowers are too wonderful! Also by ItzFitz.

How about this Multi Color Rainbow Felt Disc Pillow? (by dedeetsyshop) So fun and colorful.

Another creation from dedeetsyshop. Circus Flower Beanbag Bookends. (Just a little FYI, dede’s designs have been featured on Good Morning America and in Family Circle magazine.)

Here’s a fancy felt design by TianaCHE. Special Occasions Felted Bolero.

Charcoal Felted Clutch by FuzzyLogicFelt.

I am so amazed by what people create with felt. Once upon a time I only thought of felt for poodle skirts!! Silly me. I will make something with felt before the year is over! If it turns out well, maybe I’ll post my creation for all of you to see. : ) In the mean time, I need to make a trip to High Fashion Fabrics.
